This morning at approximately 7:10 AM in the San Francisco Bay Area, commute traffic was at a standstill on the Bay Bridge. This is the height of the commute; thousands of commuters in vehicles are lining up to cross the Bay Bridge into San Francisco where they have jobs and careers in multiple businesses. There is a man threatening to jump to his death. Originally there were also reports that he had pipe bombs in his vehicle and was going to blow them up.
We had a similar backlog of commuters in 1989 when an earthquake damaged the Bay Bridge. It took several long months to resolve that problem for people with jobs and careers in San Francisco.
I think it is time we seriously explore how companies can begin to use technology having much of their workforce with careers focused on telecommuting opportunities. My thinking is; if we can travel into outer space to an international space station, surely we can create career transitions into telecommuting possibilities.
Would you include a career transition that involves creating a job that offers telecommuting?
